Title: Alone in the Dark

Author: J A Cipriano

Genre: YA/Horror

Rating: *****

Review: This short story was amazing we are introduced to Lillim whose mother likes to play “games” with her. These games can be deadly if Lillim does keep a cool head. This particular game in which Lillim finds herself in involves being locked alone in a dark basement in a house filled with vampire only half hour before sundown. As Lillim works her way through the house she contemplates how she ends up in these games and what some of them involve. While we don’t get masses of detail due to the dark setting of the story we can still feel Lillim’s terror and anxiety with each step.

When the vampires appear in the story I was honestly wondering whether Lillim was going to make it out alive. She seems to be made of extremely stern stuff for a 13 year old and I can’t wait to read more of her adventures. While only being 10 pages long this story was so gripping as we follow Lillim through the house trying desperately to find a way out of the game, it kind of reminded me of a paranormal version of Saw. I can’t wait to read more by this author and would highly recommend this story to all horror and paranormal fans and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
