Title: The Goddess Test
Author: Aimee Carter
Review: I just want to start by saying I absolutely loved this book. I love Greek Mythology and mythological re-tellings, and this was more than enough for me to pick up the entire series.
It’s a great modern take on Greek mythology with a little bit of romance. The writing style was great, yet at some part of the story I thought it was kind of slow but the hype of the story lived up to the point where I was expecting it to be. I really liked how the whole Greek gods and goddess was characterized in this book. The plot twist was so unbelievable, I myself thought that I was being betrayed or something.
When I was reading this I noticed that it somehow resembles to Rick Riordan’s novel “Percy Jackson and The Olympians” series minus all the adventure and monsters. But in this story the main character was a girl and she was destined or should I say challenged to pass the test in order for her to be a goddess and be a part of the Olympians. The tests, I thought it would be like an adventure and she would fight monsters and stuff like that but I was wrong. I didn’t expect that those tests where really deadly.
Henry (Hades) isn’t really your typical prince charming but for Kate he’s the only guy she ever laid eyes on. Being in love with the God of the Underworld was the worse thing that you can ever imagine but she doesn’t even care who he was. She’s there because she loves him. I really liked how their affection for each other was not too much. Henry’s a little bit scared to show Kate how he feels towards her… He frustrates me but I still like his character.
Let’s see, I shouldn’t put this as a part of my review but I have to. For those who are avid readers of Greek mythology you would notice some misleading information about the characters (The Olympians). I guess that’s the main point of the author. She wants to introduce the modernize version of the myths, I think that’s the thing that I liked with her novel. It’s fresh, it’s new and definitely worth the read for me.
I enjoyed it a lot that I finished it in just one sitting. It’s great, when I started reading it I couldn’t stop. I definitely recommend this novel!
